Hsuan-Yu Shane Lin

Hsuan-Yu (Shane) Lin is a Ph.D. student in politics at the University of Virginia. Shane majors in foreign affairs and minors in political methodology. He received his M.A. and B.A. degrees in political science from National Taiwan University. His doctoral dissertation is on how leaders’ use of social media may shape public opinion about foreign policy. He is also interested in great power competition. In particular, he wants to explore, in international crises, under what conditions great powers may constrain their use of threat and under what circumstances they may not.
